Collapse ▲City of Northwest, NC – The 4‑H Youth in Action Club is marking National Nutrition Week in a unique way by immersing themselves in the 4‑H Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Unbeknownst to them, these young members are gaining valuable skills that promote lifelong healthy eating and cooking practices.
On March 8, club members participated in engaging sessions where they learned and practiced essential food safety techniques, honed their knife skills, and mastered the art of recipe reading and cooking preparation. The interactive session also included a focus on what it takes to make a Smart Snack decision—a key step toward developing healthier eating habits.
Looking ahead, the next meeting scheduled for March 29 will continue to build on these important lessons. The upcoming session will further emphasize food safety, enhance cooking skills, and provide practical guidance on using the Nutrition Facts label to make informed food choices.
Mrs. Angie, the program facilitator, is using the NC EFNEP curriculum Fuel for Life to guide these learning experiences. “Our goal is to empower these young individuals with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices, move mindfully, and safely navigate the kitchen,” she said. “Through these hands‑on activities, we’re not only celebrating National Nutrition Week but also laying the foundation for a lifetime of wellness.”
