In Brunswick County, warm-season turfgrasses thrive in our warm/hot weather, while cool-season turf does not. It is essential that you approach warm-season lawn care in an organized way, applying appropriate amendments at the correct time of year.
The maintenance calendars below serve as a beginning point, particularly for fertilization. Absent a soil sample report, the calendars assume high phosphorus soil, which is common in Brunswick County (and not necessarily anywhere else in NC). A soil test (see below) is essential in order to tailor the maintenance schedule appropriately.
Taking soil samples and following the sample recommendations is essential, and will allow you to properly adjust your fertilization to the actual needs of your specific turf. Soil testing for pH and nutrients is completed by the NC Agronomic Division Lab.
