People preserve foods for many reasons. Some to keep the excess from their gardens for winter and prevent food waste. Others because they are on special diets and want to know what’s in the food they’re eating. Or maybe you’re looking to make special holiday gifts with a personal touch. To save money in the family budget. Or maybe to try something new. N.C. Cooperative Extension Brunswick County Center has partnered with the Leland Library to offer a beginning Canning Class. Learn how to preserve foods through canning so you can start canning jams, jellies, pickles, vegetables and meats at home. Participants will learn about the equipment needed for canning, where to find safe and tested recipes and how to operate both a water bath and pressure canner.
The class will be Monday March 9 at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Leland Library, 487 Village Road, Leland. Pre-registration required by contacting the Leland Library 910 253 2665.
Avery Ashley, Family Consumer Science Extension Agent with N.C. Cooperative Extension in Brunswick County will be the instructor for these classes.
