TiLT Overview

To highlight our Teens in Leadership Training (TiLT) program, we're spotlighting some of our current and former volunteers, learning about their involvement in the program, and seeing how their experience has continued to impact them. Brunswick County 4-H TiLT youth volunteer teaching program trains youth volunteers ages 13-18, to deliver in-school, after-school, and summer programs that teach healthy living, STEM, good stewardship, and environmental awareness of the resources in Brunswick County. See our 4-H Teens in Leadership Training page for more information about the program.

Chris Gallup

When did you serve in TiLT?

2014-2015.

What is your favorite memory from serving as a TiLT volunteer?
Going to the classroom as to teach the elementary kids about chicken eggs was so much fun! More specifically “candling” the eggs was by far the best part!

How did volunteering with TiLT help you when choosing a college or career path?
It helped me to be more confident while public speaking. I really feel like I own the room when I’m talking thanks to TILT

What is one other way TiLT has helped you? (e.g., public speaking, making friends, learned something new, etc.)
It has helped me communicate with people I probably would not speak to on my own pre-TILT.

One more question! Tell us a little bit about you, now! What are you doing and where are you? What are your future plans, etc...

Right now I’m working at a furniture store in Southport. I deliver to many houses, so I often speak to people I’m not familiar with. Thanks to TILT it’s not so hard now. I’m not currently in any college classes but that should change next year!
