Brunswick County Community Service and Restitution Program

(Updated: Aug. 22, 2024, 11:08 a.m.)

The Community Service Youth and Master Gardener Volunteers have been busy maintaining the Gardens. Even with the heat and humidity, and loss of water source the Youth Vegetable Gardens have produced an abundance of veggies. The youth have shared with their families, volunteers and a local food pantry. We harvested celery, carrots, cucumbers, squash, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, okra, sweet and hot peppers and blueberries. We have donated 152 lbs to a local food pantry for distribution. We are thankful for our youth and volunteers that continue to make the program successful.

The youth and MGV have begun preparing for a fall crop. We have started planting

seeds in our new hoop-house for a fall crop of collards, broccoli, cauliflower,  cabbage and celery.

The staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to get the new hoop-house in working order. The floor has been covered. The irrigation is complete. We are near completion and ready to start some new projects. One new project will be adding Hydroponic towers into the program. We are looking forward to learning how to grow without soil.
