Description:

On Sunday, Aug. 27, diners will enjoy a multicourse alfresco meal in downtown Burnsville prepared by a team of expert chefs using local ingredients. For its second annual Farm to Fork Dining on Town Square event, the agricultural nonprofit TRACTOR has partnered with Biltmore chefs.
Executive Chef Kirk Fiore will prepare four courses using local ingredients purchased from area farms.
TRACTOR works with more than 50 small farms throughout Yancey, Mitchell, Burke, McDowell, Madison, Buncombe, Rutherford and Avery counties to collect and distribute local product to retailers and restaurants. The organization began working with Biltmore two years ago.
“Biltmore has been very supportive of the work we do with small family farms,” says Robin Smith, director of TRACTOR. “They attended and sponsored last year’s dinner, and this year Chef Fiore and his team have been great to work with.”
Menu highlights include braised pork belly plated with roasted peaches and fried okra, a salad of fresh, braised and pickled vegetables with sweet corn vinaigrette, and tableside carved roast beef with smoked butter and lemon baby potatoes. Dessert combines sweet and savory flavors with sweet corn crème caramel, honey-roasted tomatoes and basil-lime shortbread.
Biltmore chefs Brandon Castro-Pruett, Jesse Helm and Nathan Horton will assist Fiore.
Before dinner, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be served on the Nu Wray Inn porch. Homeplace Beer Co. — which opened in June as Yancey County’s first brewery — will donate beer. Debbie Phillips and The 42nd Street Jazz Band will provide live entertainment.
The event begins at 6 p.m. Proceeds support TRACTOR’s mission to spread awareness of local agriculture, broaden access to fresh food and increase farm income in the community. The dinner is the nonprofit’s only fundraiser.
Tickets are $125, and 230 will be sold. Attendees may purchase tickets at TRACTOR’s new location: 54 Ferguson Hill Road in Burnsville, as well as at the Yancey County Cooperative Extension, Mitchell County Cooperative Extension and the Yancey County/Burnsville Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are also available online: www.TRACTORFoodandFarms.com/Farm-to-Fork/Farm-to-Fork-Tickets-Now-on-Sale/.
